Bushwig is one of New York City’s most prominent queer drag festivals, recognized for its role in amplifying alternative drag, underground performance and dissident queer expression. Since its beginnings, the event has become a cultural platform that celebrates diversity, identity and creative freedom, bringing together performers, artists and audiences from across the city and beyond.
Rooted in the legacy of NYC nightlife and queer club culture, Bushwig exists as both a celebration and a statement — a space where extravagance, community and resistance coexist.
Bushwig Festival — 14th Anniversary, NYC
The visual identity for its 14th edition was developed around a playful yet intentional contrast. Soft, character-driven illustrations were created to reflect the vibrancy, chaos and emotional texture of everyday life in New York City, channeling a sense of joy, movement and diversity. These elements are paired with a tribal-inspired logotype, designed to introduce tension and structure against the softness of the compositions. The system blends retro club kid aesthetics with a contemporary digital sensibility, combining bold color gradients, expressive forms and funky, exaggerated figures to create a visual language that feels both nostalgic and current — capturing the spirit of Bushwig as a space that is as celebratory as it is subversive.

As part of the 14th anniversary, a merchandise concept was also developed, centered around an exaggerated, drag-inspired reinterpretation of a Greek deity — pushing classical references into a camp, theatrical direction aligned with the spirit of the festival. The design was intended for digital print on cotton garments, incorporating airbrushed textures and graphic elements reminiscent of 90s aesthetics to create contrast and depth within the overall visual system, while reinforcing the celebratory and iconic nature of this edition.
